Answer and Commentary _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ This patient has an acute allergic contact dermatitis and was shown to be allergic to the dye used to color her "pantyhose". The patient wore panties under the pantyhose which explains the sparing of the buttocks. The waist-line area is affected. Sunburn giving this degree of erythema would be painful and would also involve other unexposed areas.
